Land acquisition (Resettlement Action Plan)

Resettlement Action Plans that respect people and keep projects moving

We support clients and governments across East Africa to prepare, implement, monitor and audit Resettlement Action Plans. Talk to our team about your site, timeline and the standard your project must meet.

Why land acquisition matters

Infrastructure needs land, and land is people’s homes, farms and businesses. Funders such as the World Bank, AfDB and JICA require a Resettlement Action Plan wherever a project displaces people. A well-run RAP protects affected persons and keeps the project on schedule.

We support our clients and governments, especially in East Africa, in RAP preparation, RAP implementation, RAP evaluation and monitoring, and RAP completion audits for all infrastructure projects, landfills and quarries.

Our process

Step 1: Census and asset inventory

We identify every project affected person and record their land, structures, crops and other assets, with survey-grade maps of each holding.

Step 2: Valuation and entitlements

Assets are valued and entitlements set out in line with Ugandan law and the funder’s safeguard policy.

Step 3: Stakeholder engagement

Affected communities, local leaders and district officials are consulted throughout, with a clear grievance process.

Step 4: Implementation, monitoring and audit

We support compensation and livelihood restoration, then monitor progress and carry out completion audits.
